Horseshoe Casino Trip
Adults can register now for a trip to the Hammond Horsehoe Casino through the Lombard Park District. The trip is Tuesday, February 27, from 8:15 am-3:30 pm. The fee is $26 for residents and $30 for non-residents, which includes a buffet lunch and deluxe motor coach transportation. No refunds will be granted after February 13. Registration required. Kiddie Campus Preschool Registration and Open House
Kiddie Campus Preschool is accepting resident applications for the 2007-2008 school year lottery until February 6. The preschool, run by the Lombard Park District, is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) – the nation’s leading organization of early childhood professionals. Open to ages 3-6, education is based on reading and writing skills and includes activities in the areas of music, art, science, language, math and gross and fine motor development. Children also go on field trips throughout the year. Registration will be filled via a random draw on February 6. Registration for non-residents begins February 13. Space is still available for the remainder of the 2006-2007 school year, as well. Curriculum Night will be held Wednesday, January 24 from 6:30-7:30 pm. Instructors will walk parents through a typical day in the Kiddie Campus program and answer questions pertaining to curriculum. Examples of learning materials and activities will also be on display. Winter Carnival
Families can enjoy the annual Lombard Park District Winter Carnival from noon-2:30 pm on Saturday, February 3. Activities include hayrides, the Holiday Express train, refreshments, snow games, a marshmallow roast, and arts and crafts. The event is free and located at Lombard Community Building, 433 E. Crop ‘til you Drop
Catch up on your scrapbooking at Crop ‘til you Drop, hosted by the Lombard Park District. Bring your scrapbook materials and work interrupted on Friday, February 2 from 4:30-8:45 pm or Saturday, February 3, from 8:30 am-2:30 pm at the Sunset Knoll Recreation Center, 820 S. Finley Road. A Creative Memories consultant will be on hand for assistance and ideas. The cost for Friday is $12 for residents and $14 for non-residents; the cost for Saturday is $18 for residents and $20 for non-residents. Some snacks will be provided. Registration required. Sign Language Programs
The Lombard Park District is offering sign language courses for all ages. Tiny Fingers is for ages 6 months and older with a parent. Babies will learn to convey thoughts and needs, prior to being able to speak. Beginning and Intermediate Sign Language programs also are offered for ages 13 and older. The beginning program will teach basic signs and phrases; the intermediate program will teach complex sentences and conversational skills. All three seven-week courses will be held Tuesdays, January 23-March 6, at Sunset Knoll Recreation Center, 820 S. Finley Road. The cost per course is $39 for residents and $42 for others. Tiny Fingers is held from 5-6 pm, Beginning Sign from 6-7 pm and Intermediate Sign from 7:15-8:15 pm. Registration required. Preschool Parties
Youth ages 3-6 are invited to participate in Preschool Parties, a Friday afternoon program sponsored by the Lombard Park District. Each party features a different theme, with related crafts, games and refreshments. Children must be toilet independent or in pull-ups. Upcoming themes include Cinderella on January 26, Dragon Tales on February 2 and Valentine’s Day on February 9. The cost is $9 for residents and $11 for others. The parties run from 1-3 p.m. at Sunset Knoll Recreation Center, 820 S. Finley Road. Registration required. Parent’s Time Out
Parent’s Time Out allows parents to have time away while we entertain children with games, coloring and toys. The program is open to ages 6 months to 5 years and is offered Monday-Friday from 9-11 am (check park district brochure for official schedule). Lilac Time Volunteers
The Lombard Park District is seeking Lilac Time volunteers for the annual spring festival, held May 5-20 in Lilacia Park, 150 S. Park Avenue. Volunteers will earn a Moran Water Park Pool Pass or select program credits by donating their time. Fitness Center Memberships
The Lombard Park District Fitness Center is now offering memberships in one year and 3-month increments. Visitors may also purchase punch cards or pay on a daily basis, as well. Equipment includes free weights, Cybex weight machines, treadmills, elliptical machine, recumbent bikes and more. Personal training is also available from a certified personal trainer. Sessions are one hour and can be private or semi-private. The Fitness Center is located at Sunset Knoll Recreation Center, 820 S. Finley Road. Winter Fitness Classes
Start your new year’s resolution on the right path by enrolling in a Lombard Park District fitness class. A variety of classes are offered, including Pilates, Parent and Child Yoga, Exercise for Diabetics, Cardio Fusion, Classic Aerobics, Boot Camp and more. Classes start as early as Monday, January 8. Lombard Park District offers a variety of facilities available for rent for personal or corporate use, including picnic sites and shelters. Facilities also include the Lombard Lagoon Center, the rustic Log Cabin, Western Acres Golf Course Clubhouse and the Lombard Community Building. Golf Course Clubhouse Rentals
The Western Acres Golf Course Clubhouse is available to rent through March 31, weather permitting. The spacious facility features a view onto Western Acres Golf Course and a large, open room and bar. The clubhouse will accommodate up to 60 people. The golf course is located at 2400 W. Butterfield Road.
