Lombard Park District Summer Camps On April 24, the Lombard Park District Board of Park Commissioners announced Executive Director Michael A. Fugiel will be retiring effective May 31, 2007. Mike has been the executive director for the past 10 years. Throughout his 33-year carreer, he has been involved with and donated thousands of hours of his time to parks and recreation on a local, state and national level, including Illinois Parks and Recreation Association, Illinois Association of Park Districts, National Recreation and Park Association, Southern Illinois University, Northeast DuPage Special Recration Association, Lomard Rotary Club and Lomard Chamber of Commerce. Highlights from his list of accomplishments in Lombard include the purchase of the Sunset Knoll Recreation Center, the development of the Madison Meadow softball complex, the construction of the District's Administrative Office building, the gymnasium addition at Pleasant Lane School and the construction of the new maintenance facility on Columbine Ave. Under his leadership, the District achieved the status of an Illinois Distinguished Agency by the Illinois Association of Park Districts from 2002 to present. In January 2005, he received the Illinois Park and Recreation Association President's Award for his work on behalf of the 16 park district's that were adversly affected by the tax cap legislation passed in 1993. Mike has been an active memeber of the Lombard Rotary, including one term as president. He joined the Lomard Park District as executive director in 1997 after working with three other park district agencies, including Park Ridge, Skokie adn Franklin Park. The District has also announced Director of Finance and Personnel Paul W. Friedrichs will replace Mr. Fugiel as executive director of the Lomard Park District effective June 1, 2007.
