Pumpkin Smash

Don’t trash it, smash it! Green your Halloween this year and compost your pumpkin in the Lombard Common east parking lot. This is brought to you by the Lombard Junior Women’s Club, the Lombard Park District, the Village of Lombard, the Kiwanis Club, Waste Management and SCARCE (an organization that supports coordinated Pumpkin Smash events across the Chicago area).

In 2021, volunteers and staff collected over 800 pumpkins! Can we beat this number? Bring your pumpkin to Lombard Common and help us “smash” this goal!

What is acceptable? 

We are accepting PUMPKINS ONLY. Pumpkins must not have additional items on them such as: excess paint, glitter, googly eyes, and candles. As the pumpkins are turned to compost, these items contaminate the compost.

Why compost Pumpkins? 

Did you know? Illinois is the top pumpkin producer in the nation! This means it’s extra important to “Recycle” your pumpkins and make compost out of them instead of sending them to a landfill where they will be wasted and create greenhouse gases.
